Michael Alcorn

(* Belfast 1962)

Alcorn studied with David Morris at the University of Ulster at Jordanstown, Co. Antrim (BA 1985), and until 1988 with John Casken at Durham, England, before he returned to Belfast to teach at Queen's University. He particularly engaged in electro-acoustic music, built up relevant facilities at Queen's and is a founder and director of the Irish Electro-Acoustic Music Society. He is also the chairman of the Sonorities Festival of Contemporary Music in Belfast. He was a visiting composer at Stanford University and Simon Fraser University. Most of his music is conceived on a computer or requires a pre-recorded tape.
